Another COIL, Another Dream Come True

With my Technical English class approaching the end of a five-week COIL virtual exchange (Collaborative Online International Learning), similar to that of 2025, I have prompted Copilot to produce a poem, from a teacher’s point of view, entitled “Another COIL, Another Dream Come True”. Though impressive, the poem included one line that was meaningless, apparently created only to preserve the rhyme, which it fixed after it was prompted to, agreeing with me that the earlier version had been “a bit awkward”. Here is the poem, which should hopefully inspire others in Lebanon and beyond to look into virtual exchange possibilities:

Another COIL, Another Dream Come True

From a Teacher's Point of View

Another COIL, another dream come true,
A new semester, yet the wonder feels new.
Across the miles, across the seas,
Students connect with remarkable ease.

Different accents, different skies,
Different stories behind their eyes.
Yet screens become bridges, voices align,
And distant classrooms share one timeline.

At first, there is caution, a hesitant start,
A search for confidence, a reaching heart.
But question by question, conversation by conversation,
They build a community beyond location.

Ideas travel farther than maps can show,
As understanding begins to grow.
Not through textbooks alone or planned curriculum,
But through human connection, authentic and genuine.

I watch them discover what borders conceal,
How culture becomes something living and real.
They learn that differences need not divide,
But can stand together, side by side.

Projects are finished, presentations complete,
Yet the true success is the people they meet.
The lessons remembered are not always grades,
But friendships and memories that never fade.

And once again, I stand with pride,
Watching horizons open wide.
Grateful to witness what learning can be,
When minds are united across every sea.

Another COIL, another dream fulfilled,
Another future thoughtfully built.
A reminder that education's finest art
Is uniting classrooms worlds apart.

For every exchange, every voice, every view,
Renews my belief in what learners can do.
And as this journey reaches its end,
I know it’s also the place where new beginnings extend.

Another COIL, another dream come true.
Another gift for them... and for me too.
